Glamorous Co., Ltd. have been shortlisted for Restaurant – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

The entrance of the W Osaka Teppanyaki Mydo restaurant is separated from the W hotels own restaurant and to make the most of its unique layout, various shaped partitions are lined up alongside it. The partitions are placed throughout like art features, they bring the daylight into the restaurant like sunshine filtering through foliage. Then at night, the warm light permeates through reminding guests of ‘Andon’, a paper‐framed lamp used in feudal Japan. First impressions are everything with this project.

The space is inspired by the curvature of a wine bottle, and the design team have used glossy black materials to reflect the light effectively, creating a sense of depth through the restaurant. In this ambiance, guests find three unique spaces to experience the culture, history, customs and playfulness unique to Osaka, which successfully differ from the typical Japanese-style teppanyaki restaurant.

The space provides a fully enjoyable scene night and day; beautiful views from the designed partitions enclose the natural light and scenery during the daytime, which changes to lively and colourful festival-like atmosphere at night. This restaurant will be a timeless and unique dining place, creating new surprises and pleasures, never boring the guests.

Large steel panels, laser cut in various graphic patterns, were used as a base for the painting art that is spread throughout the space The panels, were hung from the ceiling as sliding doors for cleaning and maintenance, requiring specialized skills and knowledge in structural design. For the wall in the entrance area where the bottom of the wine bottle emits light and expresses graphics, the designer asked a specialist to create the lighting direction and were able to sublimate it into a stunning artwork.
